Amy Denton ’94

Soon after graduating from Barton in 1994, I accepted a position at Barton in the Office of Admissions. It, no doubt, was a groundbreaking opportunity of my lifetime. Who would have thought a shy kid from rural Franklin County, NC would one day travel, all by herself, the Eastern seaboard, from Florida to Massachusetts, to recruit new Bulldogs to Barton College, see the sights while doing it, and develop a true love of talking to people. After all, sharing all-things Barton with anyone was easy. But more than just talking, I was listening, too. Learning the who and why about people was a joy, fun, and life-changing! For 11 years, I saw the dreams of students, and their parents, come true by enrolling at Barton. They trusted the place, the people, and the education we’d give them. What better feeling is that! I’ll never forget my students and families, their happy and sad days; their life accomplishments and even their challenges. Becoming the Director of Admissions at my alma mater; the place, the people, and the education that gave me “my today” was a dream come true for me!

Fast forward to “my today”. Today, I am the newly named CFNC (College for North Carolina) Associate Outreach Director for the Northeast region of our state. I’m honored to work for College Foundation, Inc. for the past 17 years…and counting. I am grateful to use the skills I learned while at Barton, working alongside school counselors and other educators, to promote college and career access to students in Eastern North Carolina and continue to see the dreams of students come true. With 110+ excellent institutions of higher learning in our state, I’m privileged to represent them all. Don’t worry, Barton always gets an extra plug! Go Bulldogs!!
